Frequently Asked Questions

Due to the gradual onset of dementia, it can be challenging to identify when care is required before a crisis arises. Nevertheless, it is crucial to recognize the need for early care as it can positively impact the course of the disease. Although a physician’s diagnosis is paramount, it is essential to be mindful of warning signs such as disorientation, difficulty with time management, financial management issues, and struggling with routine tasks. Please do not hesitate to contact us to discuss any inquiries or concerns you may have.

Memory care differs from assisted living and retirement homes as our entire team is focused on ONLY memory care. A general assisted living may have a couple rooms dedicated to patients which suffer from memory related issues and usually a rotating doctor but since we are only Memory Care, our entire team is trained and focused on Memory Care best practices..

Memory care refers to long-term residential care that is not covered by Medicare or Medicaid (Medi-cal), which are government-issued health care insurances. Brittany House is a private-pay provider, meaning that the resident or their family members are responsible for the costs. However, residency at our communities may be covered by certain long-term insurance programs.

Although memory care falls under the assisted living umbrella, it involves a higher level of clinical care to cater to the unique requirements of individuals with Alzheimer’s, Lewy Body, Parkinson’s, Frontotemporal dementia, and other forms of dementia. Typically, memory care is provided in a distinct area of an assisted living facility, although some providers like Brittany House operate facilities solely dedicated to it. Memory care frequently incorporates daily programming to promote residents’ engagement and activity, including physical, mental, and social activities.

Our communities often receive visits from furry friends who are specially trained animals, which bring a lot of joy and happiness to our residents. However, please note that we do not allow private pets to reside within our facility. Nevertheless, you are more than welcome to bring your loved one’s pet to our facility for regular visits and strolls within our beautiful courtyards. We kindly request that you provide us with the pet’s current vaccination records to ensure the safety and well-being of all our residents.

No. Rental agreements are month-to-month but we do offer specials if paid annually in advance.

At Brittany House, associates undergo specialized training to effectively assist residents with dementia, even during instances of “colorful behaviors.” We prioritize a culture of care among all community members, regardless of job titles. To ensure continuous improvement, our training program includes ongoing sessions, monthly safety meetings, and in-service training.

At Brittany House, we hold ourselves to the highest standards when it comes to selecting team members. We conduct a rigorous screening process that includes criminal background checks and values assessments for all prospective associates.

Although a private room may appear to be a preferable option for individuals with dementia, the experience at Brittany houses suggests that companionship plays a crucial role in enhancing their quality of life. Studies indicate that social interaction and a sense of purpose through having a roommate can offer significant advantages for those living with dementia. Therefore, it is important to consider the benefits of having a companion before making a decision on living arrangements.

In general, memory care communities are capable of caring for the most prevalent forms of dementia, including Alzheimer’s, Lewy body, frontotemporal dementia, vascular dementia, and others. However, certain conditions may pose additional challenges, such as aggression, which may make it difficult for some facilities to accommodate all residents. At Brittany House , we possess a high level of expertise, enabling us to care for individuals with disease-related behavioral issues that many other facilities may not be equipped to handle.
